On April 18 the Yerevan American Corner of the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan hosted a reading marathon of Mark Twain’s classic novel “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer”. The number of participants of the marathon reached 90. The opening of the event was announced by the Deputy Director of the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan Ruzanna Barseghyan. Among the participants were the U.S. Ambassador to Armenia Richard Mills, Jr., Yerevan Deputy Mayor Aram Suqiasyan, The Deputy Minister of the Culture of RA Nerses Ter-Vardanyan, many officials from U.S. Embassy to Armenia, among them Ruben Harutyunyan, Rafael Sambou, Tiffany Sims, IRC Director Nerses Hayrapetyan, literary critic and doctor of philology Lyudvig Karapetyan,writer and culturologist Seyranuhi Geghamyan, the director of “Nakhaban” cultural-educational association Garik Ghazaryan, Deputy Director of City Central Library after Isahakyan Karine Mehrabyan, the head of organizational department of Isahakyan house-museum Ruzanna Mesropyan, actresses Arsine Navasardyan, Gayane Samvelyan and Mariam Hakobyan, senior researcher at Yeghisheh Charents house-museum, Yeghisheh Charents’ granddaughter Gohar Charents, poet, literary critic, translator and doctor of philological sciences Arten Harutyunyan, director of “Silva Kaputikyan” literary foundation, poet Gor Harutyunyan, writer and translator Lia Ivanyan, candidate of philological sciences Armenuhi Demirchyan, poet and translator Diana Hambardzumyan, Honorary artist of RA actress Grigor Baghdasaryan, poetess and social worker Ruzan Asatryan, TV journalist, the author of “From Armenian to Armenian” TV program Arpine Movsisyan, Honorary worker of the Culture of RA and the director of the City Central Library after Av. Isahakyan Hasmik Karapetyan, Armenian Voluntary Corps volunteer Margaret-Rose Dally, writer and film critic Davit Matevosyan, the students of “Usmunq” educational complex and their teacher Lilya Torosyan and many other actors, journalists, students and literary critics. Vahagn Tulbenjyan, “Tom Sawyer” read the conclusion of the book. The American Corners in Gyumri, Vanadzor, Charentsavan, and Kapan connected via video conference as participants each read a five-minute excerpt of the novel out loud. In Yerevan, participants also joined Tom Sawyer as he painted his famous fence!
