Mortenson Center for International Library Programs

On October 25, Rebecca McGuire, the visiting instructional technology specialist from the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs, delivered a public lecture for Armenian public and academic librarians at the Yerevan American Corner located in the Yerevan City Central Library after Avetik Isahakyan. The Mortenson Center for International Library Programs is a part of the library at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign, which was established 25 years ago. Ms. McGuire spoke about U. S. libraries in general and that of the University of Illinois in particular. Ms. McGuire had prepared a presentation in which she presented the Mortenson Center for International Library Programs, its mission, areas of work and programs they implement, including the Associate Program, the Partnership Program and the Visitors Program. Ms. McGuire also spoke about their new program, through which they attempt to provide comprehensive training to librarians worldwide. They have already implemented this project in a couple of countries and Armenia is one of them. At the end of the lecture the participants asked her a number of questions and thanked her for the opportunity. More than 40 librarians, including a student group from the Armenian State Pedagogical University Library School, participated in this engaging presentation on libraries and library profession.
