The Day of Presenting Books

    In 2008 by the initiative of the government of Republic of Armenia and by the decree of Levon Ananian, the president of Writers Union of Armenia, February 19, the date of birth of great Armenian writer Hovhannes Toumanian , was announced as the Day of Presenting Books. It is not strange that the name of this great writer is linked to this holyday. At the time, there was no writers union in Transcaucasia. Hovhannes Toumanian founded the literary club "Vernatoon"(Garret), which, in a way, was a union of writers due to its connection to book.
The above mentioned date has turned into a special celebration at the Yerevan City Central Library. For the last several years the library has been surprising its visitors by presenting them with books. From classic books to modern ones, readers are free to choose whatever they like.
Throughout the day video materials on the birthday of Hovhannes Toumanian and the International Mother Language Day were shown at the hall of the library.
