Presentation of Aram Haykaz’s Memoires in English

On July 8, 2015 the presentation of the memoire “For Years In the Mountains of Kurdistan”(Anthilias, 1972) by Aram Haykaz in English language(New York, 2015 )took place at the YCCL. The book was translated by Iris Haykaz. Doctor of Philological Sciences Margarit Khachatryan presented it to the audience and stated: “This unique example of biographic novel stands out in its genre. Besides describing four years of a human life, it touches upon one of the most important but still unresolved problems of our nation: the problem of our wholeness. Aram spent 4 years of his life among Kurds and Turks being sure that the few Armenians around him were the last representatives of his nation left alive”. This part of the book was recited by Canadian- Armenian teacher Anna Mary Danayan and Syrian-Armenian teacher Tiranuhi Margaryan-Karapetian. Kind words and memories were shared by close friend of Aram Haykaz, playwright, translator, Social-Political worker Hrand Margaryan, member of Armenian diaspora Dikran Toumajyan, Headmistress of Armenian School in Armenian diaspora Nvard Danayan, retired teachers Gohar Petrosian and Laura Stepanian. The latter read her poem devoted to Aram Haykaz. The last speech of the afternoon was made by Margarit Khachatryan, who thanked the management of the library and let the audience know that the sixth and the seventh volumes of Aram Haykaz’s works were on their way.
