Musical “The Cat and The Dog”

On March 28, 2016 in the framework of “Children’s Literature and Music Week” the musical “The Dag and the Cat” based on Hovhannes Toumanian’s homonymous ballad was staged at the Art School after Armen Tigranyan. The performance took place due to the collaboration between the Yerevan City Central Library and the Art School and was devoted to the 130th anniversary of the ballad. The opening speech was made by the Deputy Director of the YCCL Ruzanna Barseghyan. She congratulated the children and all the guests on the occasion of this beautiful holyday. She said that the holyday has a history of about 74 years and it was first organized during The Great Patriotic War, when Moscow was under the fire. At that harsh time many cultural workers of the USSR made a decision to unite people with the help of art, literature and music. So they establish a national holyday devoted to literature and music for children. She also mentioned that for many years this holyday had been celebrated by the YCCL with the help of a special program designed to encourage love in children towards literature and music and to acquaint them with new works of art meant for them. Mrs. Barseghyan’s speech was followed by the musical, which is performed by the students of the Art School. The art director and director of the performance are Gosh Sargsyan and Arthur Babayan respectively. The performance received warm welcome from the audience who left the small theatrical hall of the school in high spirits. In her interview with us the headmaster of the school Anahit Gevorgyan mentioned that some of the students will soon leave for the USA, where they are due to give a concert at Alex Theater. The program includes the opera Anoush and a musical, “Liturgy For Komitas”, devoted to Great Komitas. The concert takes place under the sponsorship of Silva and Karo Kuvukchians and Arman Nshanyan, who have organized a charity fund to help disabled children in Armenian. Mrs. Gevorgyan was proud to say that the student are first participants of the program and the whole profit of the concert will be donated to the above mentioned fund.
