The lecture of Naira Galstian on “The Contradictory Perception of Armenian Identity in the International Area”

On March 18, 2015 in the framework of the program “Ahead to the 100th Anniversary of Armenian Genocide” the lecture “The Contradictory Perception of Armenian Identity in the International Area” of the YSU Associate Professor of English Philology Chair Naira Gasparian took place in the YCCL. The lecturer started her speech by explaining that the controversial perception of Armenia in some extent is connected with the geographic location of the country. The foreigners consider us neither from the east nor from the west. Some of them prize our exceptional mental abilities, our ambition to be educated, our many inventors and inventions, others try to interpret even our positive features as negative. In her speech Naira Gasparian talked about Turkish- Armenian, Azerbaijani – Armenian relations as well and mentioned some journalists who had expressed their positive attitude towards Armenians. She pointed out that these two countries use their power and influence to distort the good name of Armenia. Summarizing her speech she stated that for many decades, as well as now, Armenian is what it is due to its language and culture.
